What is CBD ?

Although an increasingly common ingredient in many health and wellness products, many still wonder, what is CBD? Cannabidiol (CBD) is, by far, one of the most studied compounds of the 100-plus known cannabinoids found in Cannabis sativa. It’s one of at least 85 active compounds inside cannabis plants and has quickly gained favor among those seeking a different approach to everyday wellness. CBD has quality benefits concerning the human body; emerging studies seem to support the idea that CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system biological network composed of cannabinoid receptors – to help the body maintain overall health and wellness.

What Is CBG ?

Cannabigerol is one of the organic compounds found in the cannabis plant—aptly named cannabinoids. It is considered a minor cannabinoid, as a harvested plant will generally contain up to 1% of CBG (rarely up to 2%). But how does CBG come to be?

The cannabis plant produces CBGA—the “A” there stands for acid, meaning that CBGA is the acidic form of cannabigerol. Cannabigerolic acid is the real star of the show here, as it is a precursor to the three main cannabinoids, THC, CBD, and CBC. Simply put, without CBGA we wouldn’t have THC or CBD.

During the lifetime of the plant, natural enzymes (called synthases) transform CBGA into THCA, CBDA, and CBCA. These, in turn, are transformed into THC, CBD, and CBC through the process of decarboxylation—the removal of a carboxyl group with the application of heat. The small amounts of CBGA that remain on the plant after the formation of the other cannabinoids, are in turn decarboxylated and turned into CBG.

Whats The Difference Between CBD & CBG ?

CBG is the precursor for other cannabinoids. When heated, CBG-A, the acidic form of CBG, breaks down. It doesn’t only form CBG, though. It also forms CBD, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabichromene (CBC).

While there is comparably a lot of research available on CBD, research on CBG is far more limited. We nevertheless know how the two interact differently in the body.

We take pride in growing & producing the Best & Highest Quality Hemp Product's with the Brands you can enjoy and trust that work.
